History & Background of NCSC
North Carolina Sports Club (NCSC) originally started as Triangle Throwball Club (TTC), with a mission to introduce and promote Throwball in the Triangle area. The sport first gained traction in 2017, but it was played more as a recreational and casual activity due to several limitations. One of the biggest challenges was the lack of proper courts with throwball specific dimensions in the USA. Unlike in countries where Throwball is well-established, there were no dedicated throwball courts, forcing players to adapt to volleyball courts instead.
Since throwball courts are larger than volleyball courts, players had to make adjustments to their game. The only available options were indoor or sand volleyball courts, neither of which perfectly suited the sport's requirement. These challenges, combined with a smaller player base and lack of awareness about standard rules and competitive level in national level, meant that local teams were unknowingly following modified versions of the game rather than the official format.
Despite these obstacles, the Throwball community in the Triangle area continued to grow, with players making the best use of available facilities. The turning point came in 2022, when a team from the Triangle area participated in the Nationals, gaining exposure to the official rules and standards. This experience made it clear that following the correct format was crucial for competing at higher levels.
Recognizing this, Prathyusha Rudraraju stepped forward to educate players, teams and other organizations locally as well about the importance of aligning with national and international throwball regulations. She understood the dedication of women in the community, many of whom were balancing careers, family and personal responsibilities while still making time to play. She wanted to ensure that their hard work was recognized and channeled in the right direction, giving them a clear path to growth in the sport.
As the club expanded, two key members - Latha Siva and Apoorva Gonuguntala joined the leadership team , strengthening efforts to :
Standardize the game format.
Organize structured leagues and tournaments for fair competition.
Develop a strong and inclusive community that welcome both beginners and experienced players.
While dedicated Throwball courts remain unavailable in the US., the club worked on solutions to implement Throwball standards as much as possible within the existing court dimensions. Adjustments were made to court layouts, game strategies, league formats and tournament formats to ensure that players could experience the game as close to its original format as possible despite the infrastructure limitations.
Expansion to Multi-Sports : The Birth of NCSC
While Throwball remained a core focus, Prathyusha Rudraraju and Latha Siva saw an opportunity to expand beyond single sport and create a platform that could support multi sports under one structured and professional way. The club now aims to provide a platform for athletes of all backgrounds to come together, learn , compete, connect, make friends, and gain valuable experience.
NCSC is dedicated to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment where players not only sharpen their skills but also build a supportive community that encourages growth, both personally and athletically. The club is focused on fostering an environment where athletes can compete at their best, forge lasting connections, and continue to develop as individuals and teams.
Today, NCSC is more than just a Throwball organization, it is a multisport platform, committed to promoting a variety of sports, ensuring that every athlete has the opportunity to excel and grow in their chosen discipline.
